William Stansell Historic Building Award

by Chris Young

This evening, Thursday 20th September, Stephen and I were asked to attend an award ceremony given by The Somerset Building Preservation Trust in connection with our application to be considered for an award under the prestigious 'William Stansell Historic Building Award' scheme for 2018.

There were 25 entrants covering a whole range of historic buildings that had had renovation work carried out out in the 2-year period 2016-17.  These included private houses, a renovated folly, public buildings and Churches.  There were 6 awards and 7 commendations given to cover the diversity of the buildings being considered.

... and St John's was one of the 6 award winners!  Stephen and I and Richard Codd, the project architect, who was also invited, are absolutely delighted (and amazed), considering the type, range and quality of the entrants.  We were the only Church to be given the award, although there were several in the running.
